It is a Selective variety of ODC. We visited number of ODC drumstick farms located in different states of India, from these farms we brought 45 samples and planted in our own farm in 2012. It is a pureline selection developed by continuous selfing for six generations. . It was released in the year 2017. In each generation, we observed different characteristic of plants i.e. flowering season, fertilizer application, water requirement, fruit set, taste, size, weight and yield but only desirable characters are selected and advanced.

Features:
1. The fruits are fleshy and tasty.
2. It comes to flowering within 3-4 months of sowing and comes to harvest in 6 months.

5. The pods are 2 feet to 2.5 feet long with a girth of 2.5 inch and weigh 70 to 80 grams with 80 % flesh.

6. The average yield of the variety is 300 fruits / tree.

7. The estimated yield is around 25 -30 tons per acre per year.

Specialty:
1. Flowers two times in a year (4+4 months yield in a year )

2. Good color and medium size so market demand will be high

3. Any time cultivation accordingly market observation

I’ve ordered from Indian Agri Farm a few times and they always have good high- quality seeds, packaged well and shipped fast. These non-gmo seeds have a high germination rate and provide good yields.

I need ODC3 Drumstick seeds per Acre seed cost How much…? In Rs.3000 pkt how many seeds are there…? How to plant…! Directly seed planting..? or. through Nursery! If Nursery how many days..! Procedure please…? Please reply Wtsp: 9100403473

    • Indian Agri Farm

      Dear Customer,
      Seeds are not available now,
You may required half kg of seeds per acre.
Seeds cost varies. These seeds are free for ex service man and poor farmers. We may charge maximum 3000 Rs for commercial farming …
In a kg bag, there will be around 3000 +- 200 seeds.
If you have experience in other farming and have trip irrigation then you can go for direct sowing other wise i would suggest to go with nursery method.
      Procedure for Direct Sowing method:
      1. Drumstick seeds may have wings and are about the size of a large pea which should not be
      removed.
      2. Soak the seeds for 12 to 16 hours in water mixed with cow dung or Panchakaviya.
      3. Remove the seeds from the solution remove excess water.
      4. Suspend 20 gm of Azospirillum and 20 gm of pseudomonas in 500 ml of water and mix
      thoroughly.
      5. Mix this pates or liquid with 1 kg of seeds which soaked in water with hands till all the seeds
      are uniformly coated.
      6. Dry the coated seeds in shade for 30 to 50 mins and sow immediately.
      7. Germination times range from 3-14 days.
      Procedure for Nursery method:
Drumstick seeds may have wings and are about the size of a large pea which should not be
removed. Drumstick Seeds don’t need sunlight in order to germinate, so the setup should be kept
in a semi sun light area or under a 50 percent poly house.
      1. Nursery bags of 6 inches height should be filled with sand, Farm Yard Manure, garden soil
and red soil or Vermi compost. You have to make sure that the bag has one or two holes in the
      bottom to release excess water.
      2. Soak the seeds for 15 to 18 hours in water mixed with cow dung or punchakaviya.
      3. Remove the seeds from the solution.
      4. Suspend 20 gm of Azospirillum and 20 gm of pseudomonas in 500 ml of water and mix
      thoroughly.
      5. Mix this pates or liquid with 1 kg of seeds which soaked in water with hands till all the seeds
      are uniformly coated.
      6. The seeds should be sowed at ¾ to 1 inch depth and it should be watered daily using rose can.
      7. Germination times range from 5-14 days.
      8. Do not add extra water to the bag. After germination, irrigation can be done once in 3 days.
      9. Check them every two days. Once the seeds have broken loose from the winged shell, you will
notice two shoots protruding from the seed. You can give them a little water every day, until they
sprout – then, every other day, water until the soil on top is moist. Too much water – they will
      drown!
      10. Do not let the shoots get too long and thin as they may get fragile and break when handled.
One of the shoots will have some ruffled growth at the extremity; this is the shoot that contains
the first leaves (cotyledons) and should be the shoot exposed to the sun.
      11. We recommend that you let the plants in the bag at least 4 to 5 weeks before transplanting
to the main land. When transplanting try not to disturb the root system at all like many plants the
roots are very vulnerable until they are established in the ground.
      12. Before transplanting to the main land, use a long thin blade to loosen the soil from the inside
edges of the pot. Turn the band upside down to allow the entire plant and soil to slide out of the
container. This prevents disturbing the roots. Have a hole already dug and gently place in the
      hole.
Note: Do not use cocopit as a medium which reduce the germination rate.

    LALIT KANE

I have black soil (cotton soil), have Eucalyptus plantation & want to do drumsticks plantation on 8-10 Acre, can you pls. assist.

    • Indian Agri Farm

      Dear Customer,
Definitely we can assist you by giving our technology free of cost but as of now we don not have seeds in our hand.. Kindly wait for atleast 3 months for getting seeds.

Deep loamy or alluvial, well drain soil is highly recommended for Drumstick cultivation. However, Drumstick can be grown on soils which are considered to be unsuitable for most of other pod trees. Plant can tolerate your cotton soil and slightly alkaline too. Ill drain soil having water logging properties are not at all recommended for this variety of Drumstick cultivation. In these soils the incidence of diseases, pest becomes severe, un-uniform growth of plants occurs and defoliation and flowering treatment to the plants becomes difficult. Kindly go ahead. Thanks

Which one is the better variety in moringa ? PKM1, PKM2 OR ODC and what is the difference ?

    • Indian Agri Farm

      Dear Customer,
Each of these varieties has it own characters. As far as our knowledge or experience is concerned PKM1 is best for Leaves Cultivation, ODC3 is best for Pods Cultivation and PKM1 is best for By-product cultivation..

Let us give the complete details:
PKM1 and PKM2 both the varieties are launched by PeriyaKulaM Agricultural University, Tamilnadu. PKM1 is a very good and popular Annual variety of Drumstick. PKM2 variety is not success like PKM1 variety for pods, reasons are pods are not tasty and not handy. market does not accept this variety because of its huge size. This variety can be used for cultivating by-products like leaf, seed. These PKM 1 and PKM2 are certified /registered variety of moringa. These variety give yield till three years after that the yield will reduce gradually reduce so re plantation may required every three years once…

ODC is a famous drumstick variety being grown widely across India and recently gaining much appreciation and awareness among the drumstick farmers for its yield taste and consumer preference. ODC, this variety is not a certificated variety not registered by any Agri university, some farmers themselves developed this variety. This is not an annual variety, this can be kept till 10 years..

We have tried both the varieties at our farm. It has been absorbed that the ODC variety is better than PKM 1. Yield is higher than PKM 1 and the market acceptance is also good. ODC pods are green in color and having long shelf life which gives good price in the export market. ODC pods can be easily marketable in metro cities like chennai, Banagelore and Mumbai. We get extra 2 to 5 rs than pkm1 in the Bangalore market. We started in just 3 acres now reached 30 acres of ODC.

Now we have ODC3 variety, it is a Selective variety of ODC variety. We visited number of ODC drumstick farms located in different states of India, from these farms we brought 45 samples and planted on our own farm in 2012. We observed different characteristic of plants i.e. flowering season, fertilizer application, water requirement, fruit set, taste, size, weight and yield. Through this search we had selected few plants of having special characteristics, which are demands in India & abroad market.

    • Indian Agri Farm

      Dear Customer,
The greatness of drumstick cultivation is, it can survive in drought conditions with minimal water requirement hence your 1.5 inch water and farm pond is enough to irrigate 10 acres of moringa farm. We are very sorry to say that we don not have seeds in our hand.. Kindly wait for at least 60 days for getting seeds. This can be cultivated all round the year expect November 15 to February 15

    DR SANTOSH ADKE, Nagpur

    What is PKM1 variety?

    • Indian Agri Farm

      Dear Cusotmer,
The Horticultural College and Research Institute of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has released the variety. It is a pureline selection developed by continuous selfing for six generations, collected from Eppothumvendran of Tirunelveli region of Tamilnadu. It was released in the year 1989. The market acceptance is good.. It is a annual Plant , can be maintained till three years.

    DR SANTOSH ADKE, Nagpur

    What is PKM2 variety?

    • Indian Agri Farm

      Dear Customer,
It is a hybrid derivative of a cross between MP 31 (Eppothum vendran local, Tamil Nadu) and MP 28 (Arasaradi local, Tamil nadu). It can be propagated through seeds. The tree comes to bearing six months after planting and is suitable for growing in different cropping systems. The pods are 50 inch (4 feet) long, with a girth of 3.5 inch and individual pod weight of 275 -300 grms with 70 % flesh. The pods are less seeded and delicious. The average number of pods per tree is 220/tree/year. It yields 40 tonnes /acre. Ratoon crop can also be taken up for three years. It is suitable for by products like pods power extract, livestock fodder mix, etc. The market acceptance is very poor because of its huge size and poor taste. This variety requires more water.

    Amit joshi

ODC3 variety can be used for cow fodder if not interested in pods

    • Indian Agri Farm

It can be used for cow fodder but you may get 2.5 to 5 percent less green matter than PKM series or local indigenous variances.
The thickness of the leaves of ODC3 are lesser than PKM series or Indigenous varieties hence we dont recommd ODC 3 for fodder or leaves cultivation .. please don’t go with ODC or ODC3

I am very interested in your ODC 3 seeds , have read a bit up on them and even signed up with amazon.in to purchase a packet .
There stills seems to be some stock at amazon , but on checkout the purchase was refused because it was not allowed to send to Australia.
I Have read that you do not have any stock at the moment , so can you please put me on the waiting list for coming harvest ( in septembe? , a little bit late for here , but will have to do , i guess)
to send me a minimum size packet( 250 seeds plus +++)
please notify me of price inclusive postage and payment method .
I am growing a few, moringas ( ~ 15 ) since 5-6 years , some unspecified seeds, some Pkm1 and just put in a few Pkm 2 last season (a bit late , and the wallabies gave em a hiding)
have never had a seed pod yet, so may be have to grow them more in denser blocks like corn to get pollination happening , instead of a single row and dispersed.
I live on northern NSW , subtropical ,frost free …. bordering temperate on the bottom of the land … …About 290 m above sea level …red laterite clay soil …`2400 mm average rainfall..
Do you think the ODC or ODC 3 is good for this location ?
would like to grow some more and spread this very healthy and beneficial tree around the community a bit more and also introduce the leaves and hopefully the pods into our diet .
You explain the differences of moringa varieties and other concerns very well on your websites , thank you for being such a well of information.
    with the kindest regards
