It is a Selective variety of ODC. We visited number of ODC drumstick farms located in different states of India, from these farms we brought 45 samples and planted in our own farm in 2012. It is a pureline selection developed by continuous selfing for six generations. . It was released in the year 2017. In each generation, we observed different characteristic of plants i.e. flowering season, fertilizer application, water requirement, fruit set, taste, size, weight and yield but only desirable characters are selected and advanced.
 
 Features:
1. The fruits are fleshy and tasty. 
2. It comes to flowering within 3-4 months of sowing and comes to harvest in 6 months. 
3. The plants grow to a height of 8 – 10 feet in a year and produce 6-10 primary branches. 
4. The flowers are in clusters of 50 – 200 / cluster, only one pod develops usually and rarely 3-5 develop per cluster.
5. The pods are 2 feet to 2.5 feet long with a girth of 2.5 inch and weigh 70 to 80 grams with 80 % flesh.
6. The average yield of the variety is 300 fruits / tree.
7. The estimated yield is around 25 -30 tons per acre per year.

      ODC3 we can provide you but PKM2 we do not have.. PKM2 is a failure variety because of its poosr taste and big pod size, which can not be martetable..

    Currently I am cultivating PKM1 variety in 5 acres of land around 1500 plants in 2018 with 12 feet distance and in 1st year I got 20 tons yielding. This year fruit setting is good and I am expecting double yielding this year. I am looking for best yielding variety, Can you please suggest me which one is best among PKM1, PKM2 and ODC 3.       Through this search they had selected few plants of having special characteristics. The pods are fleshy and tasty. It comes to flowering within 3-4 months of sowing and comes to harvest in 5-6 months. The plants grow to a height of 8 – 10 feet in a year and produce 6-10 primary branches. The pinnate leaves are about 40 cm long with small leaflets which are dark green on the upper side and pale green on the lower side. Though the flowers are in clusters of 50 – 200 / cluster, only one pod develops usually and rarely 3-5 develop per cluster. The pods are 2 feet to 2.5 feet long with a girth of 2.5 inch and weigh 70 to 80 grams with 80 % flesh.

    Hello Sir, Looking for drumstick cultivation in three acre land in dhule district maharashtra state. i am first timer in cultivation and i need help as well as complete information related to drumstick cultivation. following are my some queries
    1. how much seeds i need for 3 acres
    2. can i sown the seeds directly or should i contact some nursery for germination
    3. I am planning in month of April- May 2020 is the right time
    4. I haven’t tried organic method before so would my soil will resist to organic method
    5. we have plenty of water so do i need to do drip irrigation first or borwell water supply system will work
    6. Do u provide consultancy related to cultivation from start to end related to fertilizers, spray, and other related activity

    We are traditional farmers growing seasonal crop like sugarcane, papaya, banana, cotton, wheat, maize, bajra other than this i had never tried anything before so i am concern if u can help me with the cultivation.

      2. you can sow the seeds directly, no need to give the seeds to nursery which may increase the production cost.
      Kindly find the procedur for direct sowing method.
      a. Drumstick seeds may have wings and are about the size of a large pea which should not be removed.
      b. Soak the seeds for 12 to 16 hours in water mixed with cow dung.
      c. Remove the seeds from the solution remove excess water.
      d.Suspend 20 gm of Azospirillum and 20 gm of pseudomonas in 500 ml of water and mix thoroughly.
      e. Mix this pates or liquid with 1 kg of seeds which soaked in water with hands till all the seeds are uniformly coated.
      f. Dry the coated seeds in shade and sow immediately.
      g. Germination times range from 3-14 days.

      5. Drip irrigation is not necessary when you have good water supplly if you want to reduce man power then you can go with drip irrigation.

    Yielding of odc3 drumstick seeds

      Its depends up to the variety of seed (60 percent of yield as per seed selection), climate, fertilizer application, water, soil fertility , pruning, region and pest management. How ever In drumstick cultivation, the yield is not a matter or issue, one can get good yield if he/she follows the proper schedule of water, fertilizer and pest control without knowledge. One can get abandoned yield in March and April in Tamilnadu but gets only 5 Rs per kg in the market but the same pods can be sold in November to February 50 Rs Per kg.

      How much yield one is getting in November to February is the matter. Getting yield in March & April doesn’t help farmers economically. Even if you get 10 MT in 1 acre , you will get at least 6 MT in one year in all your 5 acres…

    I am planning sowing of ODC3 drumsticks in 3.5 acre in coming June/July 19. Hence I need to know the exact qty of seeds to be purchased from you. Some farmers are sowing double seeds to avoid failures. I also like to ask you whether the seems will be usually germinated with the rain water or I will have to arrange for drip irrigation system right from sowing.
    Also I would like to ask you what will be the effect of extra rainfall on plants grown during rainy season.

Farmers and scientists can purchase small quantities of seeds from the bank for testing purposes. I do not have any ODC seeds in the bank and would like to purchase about two kilos. Imports into the USA must be properly labeled and have a phytosanitary certificate issued by India.
